Years of Experience
Our founder, Danielle Glick, has several years of ongoing experience working closely with multiple Painting with a Twist studios to develop and implement marketing strategies specific to their business. She occasionally gets asked when she started working on certain things, and if the corporate office knows what a great service this would be for every studio. Below are answers to these questions in a timeline format, with dates coming from emails and contracts. **Double asterisks denote major developments.

June 2010 — After several years of working for big corporations and ad agencies, I founded DGdesign, LLC as a marketing agency that caters to small businesses.
** July 14, 2011 — Started full-service marketing strategy and implementation work for Colleen Coppenger at the Grapevine, TX studio. This work has been very hands-on ever since.
- Started creating daily Facebook Posts with a mixture of viral memes, funny eCards, wine crafts, and painting classes; as this was the best practice strategy at that time.
- Started creating monthly campaigns of right column Facebook Ads targeted at various types of private parties.
- Directly emailed Mary Mierl for Facebook Ads approval every month for several years.
March 1, 2013 — Started full-service marketing strategy and implementation work for the Burleson, TX studio, through multiple owner/manager changes. This work has been ongoing to varying degrees over the years.
September 11, 2013 — Started full-service marketing strategy and implementation work for Tammy Milam at the Lafayette, LA studio. This work has been ongoing to varying degrees over the years.
** Autumn 2013 — Emailed and called Colleen Coppenger in Grapevine and Mary Mierl at the corporate office about my ideas to do marketing strategy and implementation at the corporate level, which included the first mention of my idea to create a marketing training website for every studio to use.
December 10, 2013 — Facebook changed their algorithm to display business Page posts much less often in people’s Facebook Feeds.
** January 2014 — Started testing a new Facebook posting strategy with the then-owner of the Burleson, TX studio. This strategy focused on posting less often than once a day and paying to boost every Post for several days.
** January 24, 2014 — Emailed a written proposal to Mary Mierl to do marketing strategy and implementation work at the corporate level, which included a “library” of my marketing strategies (which later became known as a “knowledge base”, and then a “training” website).
March 1, 2014 — Started full-service marketing strategy and implementation work for the Denton, TX studio through multiple owner/manager changes. This work has been ongoing to varying degrees over the years.
** April 2014 — All of my full service clients start using my new Facebook Posting strategy of once-a-week painting collage Posts boosted for a few days, and multiple class photos grouped into one or two photo album posts per month. This strategy switch is easy to see if you scroll back to this month on the Grapevine, TX Facebook Page.
** June 23, 2014 — Traveled to Mandeville, LA, corporate office to meet in person with Cathy, Renee, and Mary Mierl.
- They asked if they could hire me to be their in-house marketing person. They wanted me to quit running my own company of four years and relocate to work full-time in their Mandeville, LA office. I declined.
- I talked about how we could work together to create a marketing training website for all studios. They were not sure about this idea, but told me to go ahead and create the site, see if people liked it, then we could reevaluate offering it systemwide.
- They asked me to attend the annual conference as the Facebook marketing roundtable expert. I accepted.
August 5, 2014 — I attended the annual conference as the Facebook marketing roundtable expert and met many franchisees.
Late September 2014 — Cathy refers her friend/ business partner/ owner of the Dallas, TX studio to hire me to create Facebook Posts for them from October through December 2014.
- I explain my once-a-week posting strategy and get approval from the business partner to use it .
** November 13, 2014 — The Gretna, LA (owned by Renee’s mother) and Dallas, TX (owned by Cathy’s friend and husband) studios sign on to be the first two “beta test” members of my first marketing training “knowledge base” website through January 13, 2015.
- I taught them holiday marketing strategies, since it was that time of year.
February 5, 2015 — Gretna, Dallas, and 5 more studios sign on for the next level of training to be “early bird” members of my marketing training “knowledge base” website through April 30, 2015.
- I taught them the above-mentioned Facebook Posting strategies that my full service studios had now been using for almost one year.
May 2015 and beyond — More studios sign on to be monthly members of my marketing training “knowledge base” website. Read about their experiences here.
April 2016 — I update my Facebook Posting training steps to match Facebook’s new interface design and features; the core strategies remain the same as they were in January 2014.
** May 31, 2016 — Twelve members of this training site wrote overwhelming recommendations to Renee about why the corporate office should provide my training to every studio. I met with Renee and many members of the marketing team via webinar to present these recommendations and explain the full benefits of providing my training service systemwide.
- Renee asked me to email her my proposal and references; which I did.
- I never heard from any of them again after this meeting.
June 2016 — Less than one month after my meeting with Renee, the corporate office announced the hiring of two new internal social media positions and the launch of an enhanced training website.
Early September 2016 — The original “knowledge base” website is converted into a “training” website named Wise Training Owl.
October 2016 — Dallas and Gretna studios cancelled their original Beta Member subscriptions after nearly two full years, reportedly because they were required to start using corporate’s strategies since they have corporate-affiliated owners.
February 2017 — I update my Facebook Posting training steps to match Facebook’s new interface design and features; the core strategies remain the same as they were in January 2014.
**April 2018 — Became the PWAT IFA's first vendor discount.
May-June 2018 — I update my Facebook Posting training steps to match Facebook’s new interface design and features; the core strategies remain the same as they were in January 2014.
Throughout all the years — Most of our members have told me that they have – on more than one occasion – recommended to different people at corporate that this service should be provided to all studios.
